reading weakness
Feb. 21st, 2005 03:57 amWhat constitutes a "reading week" these days.
1. Got a bit of a reprieve to re-submit a slightly broken assignment for a computer science course. Re-submitted it. Found out post-hoc that it's indeed still buggy, but not irrevocably broken, and there's at least a hard copy.
That took me 'till Wednesday. It ate the weekend and the beginning of the week.
2. Had heard, from
thatthingido, that
denizsarikaya left us last Saturday morning.
bohemianpsyche had been right there when it happened --
_sps_ and
azrhey were called upon to make sure that she was remembered.
I wrestled with what I was going to do. Eventually,
mightygodking pointed out that there was only one choice, given how much it was affecting me: to go to Deniz's funeral.
sfllaw and others were there -- including
dcoombs who delivered a wrenching but spirit-lifting eulogy. And, of course,
true_nexus and others weren't there, but made sure that people knew about it/how to get there.
(Edit: to actually get there, I prevailed upon the generosity of
jessicasays and
mutantdog who were going in the same direction.)
So I spend a few days in Montreal, seeing my brother and sister and getting some distance from the psychological deadspace that my room and computer have become.
3. I tore into the piles of notes, papers and junk surrounding me and got myself organized for the return to school.
In the background, a steady stream of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I don't know why, but that show works like a massage for my brain and soul. I'm a few episodes away from The Body, but when I get there I'm sure I'll fall apart. In a way that I really need to.
Oh, and I caught Million Dollar Baby with brother Etan while I was in Montreal. It was a movie, which is a higher compliment than can be paid to most things shown in cinemas these days.
