What constitutes a "reading week" these days.

1. Got a bit of a reprieve to re-submit a slightly broken assignment for a computer science course. Re-submitted it. Found out post-hoc that it's indeed still buggy, but not irrevocably broken, and there's at least a hard copy.

That took me 'till Wednesday. It ate the weekend and the beginning of the week.

2. Had heard, from [livejournal.com profile] thatthingido, that [livejournal.com profile] denizsarikaya left us last Saturday morning. [livejournal.com profile] bohemianpsyche had been right there when it happened -- [livejournal.com profile] _sps_ and [livejournal.com profile] azrhey were called upon to make sure that she was remembered.

I wrestled with what I was going to do. Eventually, [livejournal.com profile] mightygodking pointed out that there was only one choice, given how much it was affecting me: to go to Deniz's funeral. [livejournal.com profile] sfllaw and others were there -- including [livejournal.com profile] dcoombs who delivered a wrenching but spirit-lifting eulogy. And, of course, [livejournal.com profile] true_nexus and others weren't there, but made sure that people knew about it/how to get there.

(Edit: to actually get there, I prevailed upon the generosity of [livejournal.com profile] jessicasays and [livejournal.com profile] mutantdog who were going in the same direction.)

So I spend a few days in Montreal, seeing my brother and sister and getting some distance from the psychological deadspace that my room and computer have become.

3. I tore into the piles of notes, papers and junk surrounding me and got myself organized for the return to school.

In the background, a steady stream of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I don't know why, but that show works like a massage for my brain and soul. I'm a few episodes away from The Body, but when I get there I'm sure I'll fall apart. In a way that I really need to.

Oh, and I caught Million Dollar Baby with brother Etan while I was in Montreal. It was a movie, which is a higher compliment than can be paid to most things shown in cinemas these days.
