It's been a funny sort of weekend. Here's what I done: I went to see The Life Aquatic again Friday. It was actually quite good upon a second viewing, but nowhere near the transcendent genius of Tenenbaums. Anyway, the cardboard sub, new-wave-cum-undersea aesthetic and dreamlike marine life were still hypnotic.

Aside: I'm liking the work environs; thanks in a big way to Matt and Dimitry for the ropes-showing. I hope I start to be useful proper sooner rather than later.

Then the weekend started in earnest, with a four-hour proctoring gig. I kept my eyelids open with darjeeling tea, toothpicks, and FFI courtesy of my DS. Partway through, I lent the cartridge to the building's security guard so that I would do some homework. (He had a DS too, and I got to try some multiplayer Mario DS. It was righteous.)

Met up with old, cherished friend Paul K for lunch. Reminisced and talked about television. He told me that the Wire makes other TV seem pale and ill-fed by comparison. Given Angel and Arrested Development I cannot believe him completely.

Then, caught House of Flying Daggers with Bryce. It was really fucking sappy, but it was pretty emotionally affecting nonetheless. The kung-fu and wuxia was neat, but nowhere near the level of guilty fromage exemplified by Hero, in which the Future of China rested on being able to find the ultimate calligraphy-fu technique, basically, the best kung-fu as expressed in sword and pen, which in many ways is totally retarded but is exactly what I'm looking for in a Kung Fu movie.

When I finished stumbling home, Carolyn dropped by and we went for a walk with the pooch.

Anyway.

Tomorrow I've got choir with the Firestarter and the rest of the gang. We're getting dressed up in fancy clothinges for the purpose of publicising our Valentine's Day activities. If you are around U of T and want to hire a group to sing a song to your sweetie, look no further than Onoscat.

Today was fun, fo real. I awoke late, having finally gotten some damned sleep. Tried to fix Carolyn's computer. Don't think I did. But then, I went over to Hart house to meet up with Nick, and hit the old gym. That was fun. Hadn't done it in a while and it felt good to feel the acid in my limbs. Saw Paula S from UTS days, and showed her a couple of weights tips.

40k ensued. )

It's gonna be a long week. Yes, I'm ready.
